Mission Statement

SOUTHEAST DISTRICT – Southeast District Ushers thank you, Lord, for our daily bread with abundant grace and love, with faith and hope, with family and friends. Thanksgiving is a time for us to stop and praise God for all the blessings in our lives. Family and friends are at the top of our list of the things for which we are grateful. It is with great joy that we ask for the Lord to bless your family this Thanksgiving. We will give thanks to the Lord with our whole heart; we will tell everyone of his wonderful deeds. Wishing everyone a harvest of blessings and good health. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. This love makes a family. This love accepts you for who you are, respects you and sticks with you through thick and thin. Although we are not tied by blood, I am very thankful to call you my family. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything, give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. This Thanksgiving, may your heart be directed at God, who gives you countless reasons to be grateful. Happy Thanksgiving. From the Southeast District Ushers Michelle Wise - President

Message from the Southeast District

On February 14, 1946 at the Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of State President Elmira Smith (Draper), the City-Wide Ushers were organized.  George F. Hawkins, a Charter Member, was an inspiration and spokesman; he could have been known as “Mr. Usher.”  Due to his enthusiasm, the City-Wide Ushers came into being.  In 1947, the City Wide Ushers changed their name to “The Southeast District Ushers’, the Third Charm in the link of the Union Usher Board, State of California, Inc.

The first official slate of Officers was President M.K. Courts; 1st Vice President, Louise Hemphill; Secretary Johnnie B. Jackson; and Treasure, William J. Cooper.  The Charter Churches were Bethel A.M.E., Bethel Baptist, Calvary Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist and Phillips Temple Church.
In 1950 The Young Adult Department was organized follow by the Junior and Youth Department in 1955. The continued blessing of growth allowed the Juniors and Youth Departments to separately organize in 1955. The Supervisor of the young People became the first to recruit and train our youth for competition.  The fields entered are: Vocal, Oratory, Piano and Essay in rotation

Our goal is to encourage, involve and inspire our young people to attain a full and richer life; assist in the achievement of some special goal or career, thus reaching the highest education standards possible.

Southeast District is proud to be a part of the Union Usher Board State of California, Inc. Our aim is to come together as one body with one objective to serve with efficiency and dignity.

Michelle Wise - Southeast District President
